Lesotho’s Redemption: Sam Matekane’s Unstoppable Victory Overthrows the Corrupt Regime

Mr. Sam Matekane formed his political party this year which is called Revolution For Prosperity (RFP). In the past I wrote about Mr. Sam Matekane’s networth, in this article you are about to learn how many constituencies Revolution For Prosperity (RFP) won.

Before I go on with this article, I have seen that many people are searching online for the term “revolution.” In my own words, I would say revolution means transformation. In other words this says that if things are to go well, Lesotho is yet to see transformation in its economy. But we all know that sometimes things don’t go as planned. But I do believe that Lesotho’s economy will change.

Now let’s take a look at how this article is structured:

  • What is RFP?
  • How many constituencies did RFP win at the elections?
  • Mr. Sam Matekane’s Networth in 2022
  • Lesotho’s wealthiest men who bougy helicopters
  • Lesotho’s new Prime Minister speech At Setsoto Stadium
  • Where do you think Lesotho is going?

Now that you have a clue on how this article is structured, let’s get right on it.

Before the national elections, many political parties were seen on Lesotho television campaigning. Some of the parties were so sure that after the elections they would have won. But RFP shocked almost all these parties by winning many constituencies.

What is RFP?

RFP stands for Revolution for Prosperity. This is Mr. Sam Matekane’s newly formed political party. When you take a look at Revolution for Prosperity (RFP), you will find that it consists of Lesotho’s wealthiest men. When the 11th parliament of Lesotho opened, there was this motion made by the nation; “11th parliament is the rich against the poor.” What is your opinion about this? LOL, well I kind of agree to this statement somehow.

I don’t actually recall the exact day in which Revolution for Prosperity was formed. But it formed earlier this year; 2022. After it was formed, we learnt that it consisted of Lesotho’s wealthiest men. You will learn about Lesotho’s wealthiest men who bought helicopters.

How many constituencies did RFP win at the elections?

Before I go on and on as to how many constituencies RFP got during Lesotho’s 2022 national elections, I would like to state few challenges that this political party faced. One of the major challenges happened during the nomination of people who were going to stand in for the elections under RFP.

Mr. Sam Matekane himself nominated potential candidates for this party as the leader. Somehow his followers argued that they had nominees they want, as a result some people ended leaving RFP. This actual conflict made other political parties to rejoice because to be honest, many political leaders were not happy to be going against the legendary Mr. Sam Matekane.

Why were these political leaders unhappy? I don’t really know but maybe, they were scared that Mr. Sam Matekane stood a better chance than them. He has invested in many community developments projects in Lesotho. Besides that, he bought uniform for both LMPS and LDF. Besides that, he is loved by Basotho because he gave back to the community.

Many political argued that he was greedy, and that he wants the tenders all to himself. Then I was like, I don’t see a problem because all the money he gets, he is giving it back to the community. On the other hand, we have seen ABC being corrupt, DC and other political parties. I also became a victim under the leadership of the past 10th parliament.

After the elections, Revolution for Prosperity won 56 constituencies. It was leading other political parties. This was history made because many political leaders of senior political parties didn’t even win a single constituency. Out of 66 political parties, RFP came top with the most votes while some parties got few votes. This was history; Lesotho, a small country like this, 66 political parties! Wow!

Here are some of the senior political parties who lost their constituencies to RFP. I can name the leader of ABC Mr Nkaku Kabi, the leader of AD Mr. Monyane Moleleki, and Mr Mothejoa Metsing of LCD etc. However, these leaders are not the only ones who lost, in fact, 80% of political leaders didn’t win, RFP took all their constituencies, how sad for them.

However, the most unfortunate thing was that, Revolution for Prosperity (RFP) couldn’t form a government alone because for a party to lead a government, it needs 62 and above seats. This therefore led to a trio coalition government consisting of Revolution for Prosperity (RFP), Aliance for Democracy (AD) and Movement for Economic Change (MEC). I am not sure if the abbreviation for MEC is correct, if I am please do care to correct me.

Mr. Sam Matekane’s Networth in 2022

Many people are wondering how much Mr. Sam Matekane’s net worth is in 2022. Recently I saw an article stating the actual monetary value of his networth being M10 billion. I saw an argument on Facebook regarding this, people were like “who rated his assests to be worth this much?”

As a result of this, I am not going to make that mistake of stating net value. But I know is that he is Lesotho’s richest person. Just recently, he just borrowed his helicopter to the Lesotho Mounted Police Service (LMPS) to use it so that they can catch thieves, burglars and gangsters doing criminal activities in Lesotho.

However, Mr Matekane is not the only rich man in Lesotho. I have written an article on this one. You can read it too to learn more about his net worth.

Lesotho’s wealthiest men who bought helicopters

I have already mentioned that Mr. Sam Matekane is not the only person who is rich in Lesotho. After his party was formed, some of his associates bought helicopters too. RFP is formed of Lesotho’s rich men. Just after this party was formed, Mr Lebona Lephema of Executive Transport bought a helicopter.

Not only him, but the owner of Hippo Transport also bought a helicopter and after that Mr. Mdlokovana also bought his helicopter. This happened consecutively. I don’t really know what their aim is but in this political party, there are 3-5 helicopters. This shows that Lesotho has rich people, they may not the only ones, but Basotho got big pockets I tell you. Don’t underestimate them.

Lesotho’s new Prime Minister Speech at Setsoto Stadium

In the past government, there was a common hearing that “the government doesn’t have money, even the janitors know that!” I was beginning to believe it too until the day Mr. Sam Matekane was officiated as Lesotho Prime Minister to the 11th parliament.

In his speech he stated that the government is the one which creates jobs. He went further to state that he and his associates, are going to work hard to ensure that they create jobs and eradicate unemployment especially amongst the youth.

Even in 2022 are we still saying the government doesn’t have money yet people were lining their pockets with Basotho’s taxes and donations made worth of M6.1 billion! I leave this question to you to answer, as for me, I don’t believe it. We were being led by selfish leaders who wanted their families to be rich and thrive while the rest of the nation was stuffing and struggling for survival.

Where do you think Lesotho is going?

Under this new leadership, where do you think Lesotho is going? I am asking because I have seen that in the 11th parliament, there is a dominance of new faces. People who took part in the past parliaments are no more. This means Lesotho is yet to experience revolution, whether it is going to be a good revolution we don’t know, but it is time for change.

I now conclude this article by urging you to comment. What do you think of the 11th parliament? Do you think Lesotho will grow economically? If yes, why do you say so? If no, why do you say so? Oh please don’t forget to share this article with your friends, until next time, ciao!
