I am quite sure that you are more eager to know which methods you have to follow in order to make money through a blog. But firstly, you must understand that in order to make money following our lessons, you have to have a blog online. You should have an online presence; you have to be there on social media platforms so that you can promote your blog nicely and perfectly.
Don’t get me wrong, you can succeed even if you don’t use social media but your marketing will be hard. It wouldn’t hurt to have many options of marketing your blog I guess.
There are several ways in which you can make money online in 2020. But today we shall be focusing on ways of making money via a blog, underline that. I am saying this because there are still many ways of making money online even if you don’t have a blog.
How to monetize a blog?
Monetizing a blog is not a very easy task, if it were; all these people who own blogs online could be filthy rich. There are measures you have to take in order for you to make money online. The following are ways in which you can monetize (make money) through your blog:
- Google Adsense
- Affiliate marketing
- Selling your services online
- Physical products
- Advertising
- Digital Products
Google Adsense
Adsense is a google program that allows bloggers and content marketers to make money through placing electronic adverts within their content. This works in this way, after you have completed setting up your blog, you can sign up with google adsense as a way of generating money for yourself.
For wordpress users, adsense is a built in program, all you have to do sign up with it, then after some time whenever you visit your blog, you will see ads relating to your blog content being advertised within your content.
How does this program work?
- Google Adsense is one of the easiest methods that new bloggers opt for when monetizing their blogs. However, you should know that in order to be able to sign up with adsense, your blog has to be 6 months old or older. If you blog is not 6 months old, my dear friend don’t even bother with Google adsense because your application will be declined.
- Your content should all be related. We are not expecting you to have mixed topics which do not relate to each other on one blog. For example, when your niche or topic is soccer, we are not expecting see you talking about wrestling, you have to stay in your lane. If somehow you have done this, iyooo….consider your application to be declined.
- One more thing to note is that, you should have more content, don’t write two articles and expect to sign up for this program, you will be sorry than a dog caught red handed stealing food.
The programs works in such a way that, whenever a visitor clicks on one of the ads placed within your content, you earn money. This trick is called Cost per Click (CPC). Money earned may go straight to your bank account or to your PayPal account.
But be warned that in order to make a lot of money using this strategy, you have to have a lot of traffic since 1 click costs $0.27 or more, but it isn’t more than $0.50. From my perspective, I think it is better than to collect a small amount from time to time than not collecting anything. Those small amounts you collect, will work as a motivation to you to keep writing.
Note:
If you are a newbie in blogging, adsense is the right program to try as you are trying to tame the blogging horse. But I am sure you can agree with me that you will have to be very careful of the content you post on your blog so that your adsense application can be accepted.
Affiliate Marketing

As an affiliate marketer, you promote someone else’s product or service to your readers. You link to that product or service using your unique affiliate link. When someone clicks through that link and makes a purchase (or completes a desired action set by the company), you earn a commission. There are thousands of affiliate programs to join.
Here are some of the affiliate programs you can join as a blogger or content marketer:
- Amazon Associates – With Amazon, you get paid whenever your readers purchase Amazon products through your links.
- Genesis – This is the WordPress affiliate program, it works like any other affiliate marketing program.
- Amazon Influencer Program – A different Amazon program which gives you your own Amazon shop like mine here.
- Affiliate Acceleration – An excellent e-course by a blogging friend.
The above mentioned affiliate programs are not the only ones, the list is long. But I am sure you get the point and the importance of joining affiliate programs.
Selling your services online

This one right here I think it is very clear. But hey, not everyone can understand what we are talking about, so I will go on and elaborate on it so that we are all on the same level.
Some bloggers use the expertise related to their blog topic and get paid when others hire them. Services can be offered locally or virtually.
The following are the examples of services that can be offered online:
- Speaking – Many bloggers find speaking gigs as a result of the platforms they build on their blogs. Maybe due to the fact that people like what you write about, you can end up being a motivational speaker who is hired to speak at events.
- Virtual assistance – Here you apply for remote jobs. You work from your home but online, you can be a virtual web developer: you code a website from home then submit it to your boss via email. That is what virtual assistants do. They work from home, but let me warn you that it is not very easy to get such a job when living in countries which fall in the southern African continent.
- Organizing, decorating, and cooking – Some bloggers provide services to local readers. If you are good at catering for instance, my dear friend, you can use your skills online as a service for your clients.
Offering a service is an excellent way to make money quickly because startup costs are low, little to no inventory is required and you get paid for a skill you already have. The downside is, it’s not scalable.
Physical Products

Your blog is another form of platform where you can promote your physical products. Therefore this shows that if you have products you sell in your everyday life, put them online, advertise them, and let the world to know about them.
For instance, if you are a network marketing agent, sell your products online as another form of income stream. By so doing, you are increasing your chances of selling higher by 20% since the products shall be online 24/7.
Take me for example, I am a dynapharm network marketing agent, I will be displaying the products I sell online in the upcoming days. I am waiting to complete my blogging lessons I offer to my readers first, then after that; I will be talking about my physical products. You too should do this as a way of making money.
Advertising
When you have attracted enough traffic to your website or blog, you can approach big companies for advertising on your blog. This is one of the methods that bloggers use to generate money from their blogs. You too can do this.
Companies want to get their product in front of potential customers. They may be interested in advertising on your blog if your readers are their ideal customers. Here are ways to incorporate advertising into your blog:
- Display ads – Graphics in your sidebar, header, footer or within your content. Companies may agree to buy a portion of your blog and advertise on it.
- Giveaways & reviews – Companies provide you with free product (and hopefully monetary compensation) and you highlight that product on your blog through writing.
- Sponsored or underwritten posts – Companies pay you to write posts mentioning them or their product.
- Newsletter / video / podcast sponsorships – Advertisements in emails or mini commercials in videos or podcast episodes.
Advertising is easy to start making it a popular income stream for many bloggers. However, it’s not nearly as lucrative as it once was and it requires a lot of traffic to be truly profitable. Therefore, it’s not a top recommendation of mine.
Digital Products

Many bloggers create and sell their own digital products. Digital products are great because they don’t require inventory and can be distributed to quickly and easily. There’s no overhead and low risk. Examples of digital products bloggers create:
- Ecourses – Teach others what you know and sell it over and over again.
- Online classes or workshops – Teaching, but in a live setting.
- Ebooks – Self publishing is very profitable for many.
- Premium Content – Content others must pay to access.
- Membership sites – A mixture of teaching and community.
- Photos – Many photographers sell their photos online.
- Audio or video – Create music jingles, voice overs or video clips.
By so saying, this brings us to the end of today’s lesson. I hope you will find it fruitful just like the past post about making money online. Now let’s take a recap on what we covered in this article.
Recap
We both learned today that there are many ways in which a person can make money from a blog. We realized that we can sell products, both physical and digital. We can also sell services to our readers so that we keep them bound to us always.
